Overview Introduction Sildaflow 20mg Tablet is a medicine used to treat high blood pressure in the blood vessels that supply the lungs (pulmonary arterial hypertension). It relieves breathlessness and improves exercise capacity in men and women. This slows down the progression of your illness. Sildaflow 20mg Tablet belongs to a group of medicines known as phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE 5) inhibitors. It may be taken on an empty stomach or with a meal, but it should be taken at a fixed time each day. The dose and how often you need to take it will be decided by your doctor so that you get the right amount to control your symptoms. Follow the advice of your doctor. It is important to take this medicine regularly and for as long as you are advised, even if you feel well. Missing doses may lead to the worsening of your condition. The most common side effects of this medicine are flushing (sense of warmth), headache, nosebleeds, blurred vision, indigestion, difficulty in sleeping, and rash. Talk to your doctor if any of the side effects bother you or do not go away. This medicine can be dangerous to take along with medicines called nitrates (often given for chest pain). Do not take this medicine if you have severe heart or liver problems, if you have recently had a stroke or heart attack or if you have low blood pressure. Let your doctor know if you suffer from these or any other health problems. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also consult their doctor before taking it. You should not drive if this medicine makes you feel dizzy. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine as it increases the chances of side effects. Side effects of Sildaflow Tablet Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. The occurrence of side effects varies from person to person. The following are a few ways of dealing with some of the common side effects. However, consult your doctor if these persist. Coping with Flushing (sense of warmth in the face, ears, neck and trunk) Sip cold or iced drinks. Try cutting down on coffee, tea and alcohol. It might help to keep the room cool and use a fan. You could also spray cool water on your face. Wear layers of light clothing that you can easily take off if you overheat. Breathe deeply and try to relax. Have a lukewarm shower or bath instead of a hot one. Avoid smoking and cut down on alcohol. The flushing should go away after a few days. If it does not go away or causes problems, contact your doctor. There may be medicines that can help. Coping with Headache Make sure you rest and drink plenty of fluids. Rest in a quiet, dimly lit room. Do not sleep more than you normally would. Do not strain your eyes (for example by looking at a screen). Do not drink alcohol. Headaches are usually temporary and usually go away with time. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Sildaflow 20mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time. How Sildaflow Tablet works Sildaflow 20mg Tablet is a phosphodiesterase (PDE-5) inhibitor. It works by relaxing the blood vessels in your lungs thereby reducing the high blood pressure in the lungs. This allows your heart to work less to pump blood in your lungs. Safety Advice Alcohol UNSAFE It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Sildaflow 20mg Tablet. Pregnancy SAFE IF PRESCRIBED Sildaflow 20mg Tablet is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies. Breastfeeding SAFE IF PRESCRIBED Sildaflow 20mg Tablet is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby. Driving UNSAFE Sildaflow 20mg Tablet may decrease alertness, affect your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur. Kidney SAFE IF PRESCRIBED Sildaflow 20mg Tablet is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustment of Sildaflow 20mg Tablet is recommended. However, inform your doctor if you have any underlying kidney disease. A lowering of dose may be considered if it is not well-tolerated. Liver CAUTION Sildaflow 20mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with severe liver disease. Dose adjustment of Sildaflow 20mg Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor. There is limited information available on the use of Sildaflow 20mg Tablet in patients with severe liver disease.
