Overview Introduction Cartigen Duo Tablet is a combination of two medicines. It is used in the treatment of osteoarthritis. It reduces pain and swelling by reducing inflammation. It also reduces friction in the joints and makes physical movements more comfortable and pain free. Cartigen Duo Tablet may be prescribed alone or in combination with another medicine. It should be taken with food. This will prevent you from getting an upset stomach. Take it regularly and do not take more or use it for a longer duration than recommended by your doctor. You should not stop taking the medicine until your doctor tells you it is okay to stop. Using this medicine may cause a few common side effects such as nausea, diarrhea, constipation, urine discoloration, and heartburn. If you experienced any such side effects that does not resolve with time or get worse, you should let your doctor know. Your doctor may be able to suggest ways of preventing or reducing them. The medicine may not be suitable for everybody. Before taking it, let your doctor know if you have any medical conditions or disorders. Let your doctor also know all the other medicines you are taking. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult their doctors first before using the medicine. Uses of Cartigen Duo Tablet Osteoarthritis Side effects of Cartigen Duo Tablet Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them Common side effects of Cartigen Duo Nausea Diarrhea Constipation Urine discoloration Heartburn How to cope with side effects? The occurrence of side effects varies from person to person. The following are a few ways of dealing with some of the common side effects. However, consult your doctor if these persist. Coping with Nausea You can help yourself by eating small, frequent meals rather than large ones and drinking plenty of fluids. Eat slowly. Avoid fatty, fried, spicy and very sweet foods. Eat cold or slightly warm food if the smell of cooked or cooking food makes you feel sick. Get plenty of fresh air. You could also try chewing ginger or drinking ginger tea. Eat bananas to replace potassium in your blood which can drop if you are sick (vomit). Use oral rehydration salts to replace vitamins and minerals lost through being sick. There are some medicines that can help you stop from feeling sick. Speak to your doctor if your condition does not improve. Coping with Diarrhea Keep up your intake of fluids and electrolytes (sugars and salts) to avoid getting dehydrated. Eat less fiber (avoid raw fruits, fruit juice and vegetables). Talk to your doctor about possible medication to manage diarrhea. Ask about reducing the dosage of your drug or other suitable treatments. Coping with Constipation Try to eat foods which are high in fiber such as fresh fruits, vegetables and cereals to increase the bulk and consistency of bowel movements. Drink plenty of water or non-alcoholic drinks and stay hydrated to promote healthy digestion. Increasing physical activities such as walking, yoga and regular exercise can also be helpful. If your condition does not improve, you can ask your doctor to prescribe you laxative medicine. Coping with Heartburn Avoid foods that irritate the stomach such as alcohol, carbonated soft drinks, citrus, coffee, fatty foods or tomatoes. Eat or drink slowly. Eat smaller, more frequent meals. The reason being, large meals fill the stomach and put pressure, causing reflux. Quit smoking if you smoke, lose weight if you are overweight and avoid tight waistbands. Ask your doctor about medicines to treat this condition such as antacids. Do not lie down immediately after eating and wait for at least three hours before lying down after a meal. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Cartigen Duo Tablet is to be taken with food. How Cartigen Duo Tablet works Cartigen Duo Tablet is a combination of two medicines: Diacerein and Glucosamine, which relieves osteoarthritis symptoms. It helps in the formation of cartilage (the soft tissue that cushions the joints) and keep the joints lubricated for better movement and flexibility. Safety Advice Alcohol CAUTION Caution is advised when consuming alcohol with Cartigen Duo Tablet. Please consult your doctor. Pregnancy CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR Information regarding the use of Cartigen Duo Tablet during pregnancy is not available. Please consult your doctor. Breastfeeding SAFE IF PRESCRIBED Cartigen Duo Tablet is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby. Driving CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR It is not known whether Cartigen Duo Tablet alters the ability to drive. Do not drive if you experience any symptoms that affect your ability to concentrate and react. Kidney SAFE IF PRESCRIBED Cartigen Duo Tablet is probably safe to use in patients with kidney disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Cartigen Duo Tablet may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor. Liver UNSAFE Cartigen Duo Tablet is probably unsafe to use in patients with liver disease and should be avoided. Please consult your doctor.
